Scott Wood: A Lifetime of Service and Commitment to Haverhill

Scott Wood a native of Haverhill, grew up in a family deeply rooted in public service. His father was a police officer, and his mother worked as an Educational Support Professional (ESP) in the Haverhill Public Schools. From an early age, Wood embraced the values of community engagement and giving back, influenced by his parents and his grandfather, Merton Howard, who dedicated 37 years to serving Haverhill as a police officer.

Wood's education began in Haverhill, where he attended Fox School, Golden Hill School, Whittier Middle School, and graduated from Haverhill High School in 2001. Remarkably, just two years after high school, he made history by becoming the youngest elected official in the city's history when he was elected to the Haverhill School Committee in 2003. While serving on the school committee, Wood pursued higher education at Fisher College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Management and an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice.

Throughout his nearly two-decade tenure on the School Committee, Wood has been a steadfast advocate for Haverhill's educational institutions, its students, teachers, and staff. He spearheaded initiatives for smaller class sizes, promoted the integration of modern technology in classrooms, and played a pivotal role in major projects such as the comprehensive renovation of the high school. Additionally, Wood skillfully negotiated contracts that balanced fiscal prudence with the need for competitive compensation to attract and retain top-tier educators. He was instrumental in establishing the Haverhill School Committee Subcommittee, aimed at ensuring that the city's educators reflect the diversity of the student population.

Beyond his educational endeavors, Wood brings nearly two decades of experience in the finance industry. His background underscores his commitment to fiscal responsibility and prudent financial management, qualities vital for effective governance.

Moreover, Wood has been proactive in addressing contemporary challenges facing Haverhill in the 21st century. He has advocated for innovative programs within schools and the community to tackle issues such as substance use disorder, school and neighborhood violence, and truancy, demonstrating his forward-thinking approach to problem-solving.

In addition to his civic engagements, Wood has been actively involved in supporting various causes and organizations within the community. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Haverhill Boys and Girls Club and the Greater Haverhill Newburyport ARC, coached basketball at the local YMCA, and worked as a Care Ambassador for the Parkinson's Foundation.

Now, with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of delivering tangible results, Scott Wood is running for Mayor of Haverhill. He seeks to bring his years of dedication and expertise to City Hall, continuing his fight for the people of Haverhill and striving to lead the city toward a brighter future.
